What a Sober Coach Does
A sober coach (often considered a type of recovery coach) provides non-clinical, one-on-one support designed for real life—helping you follow through on the daily choices that protect sobriety. Coaching is practical, structured, and action-focused.
For many people, a sober coach becomes the bridge between treatment and real life—helping translate clinical recommendations into actual decisions and repeatable habits.
What a Sober Coach Helps With
- Builds daily routines and sober structure around your actual schedule
- Identifies triggers and creates specific relapse-prevention responses
- Reviews goals and progress at each session — not just encouragement
- Supports work, school, or family re-entry during transitions
- Holds you accountable to commitments between sessions
- Coordinates with therapists, sponsors, or treatment providers when appropriate
What a Sober Coach Is Not
- Not a licensed therapist or medical provider
- Not a 12-step sponsor (but can complement both)
- Not a sober companion by default (different level of care)
- Not a vague "life coach"—focused on sobriety and stability

What Does a Sober Coach Cost?
Sober coaching is a private-pay service, and the investment varies based on several factors — there is no single flat rate because no two situations are alike. The cost reflects the type of service, the level of intensity, the duration of engagement, and the specific needs of the individual and family.
Factors that influence the overall investment include whether services are delivered in-home, virtually, or through travel-based support; the frequency and length of sessions; whether 24/7 availability is needed; and the complexity of the situation, including co-occurring mental health challenges or high-risk environments.
We do not list pricing publicly because we believe every client deserves a personalized conversation — not a menu. The right level of support is determined together, and we work to match the appropriate service to what is actually needed.
What Influences the Cost
We do not accept insurance. Private pay only — which means no restrictions, no records shared, and complete confidentiality.
What to Look for in a Sober Coach
Not all sober coaches are created equal. The field is largely unregulated, which means the quality of support varies widely. Knowing what to look for protects you and your family — and helps ensure you're investing in someone who can actually deliver results.
Lived Experience in Recovery
A sober coach who has personally navigated addiction and long-term recovery brings a depth of understanding that no certification alone can replicate. Ask directly: are they in recovery themselves, and for how long?
Relevant Training & Certification
Look for credentials in recovery coaching, addiction counseling, or related fields. A certified recovery coach has completed formal training and adheres to professional ethical standards.
Verifiable Track Record
Ask for references or read independent reviews. A credible sober coach should have documented client outcomes, testimonials, and a history of working with real people in real situations — not just a polished website.
Clear Scope of Practice
A good sober coach knows what they are — and what they are not. They should be transparent about the difference between coaching and therapy, and willing to refer out when clinical support is needed.
Confidentiality & Discretion
Especially for executives, professionals, and public figures, privacy is non-negotiable. Ask how client information is handled, whether they bill insurance (which creates records), and how they manage discretion in the field.
Communication & Fit
The relationship between a client and their coach is everything. The right coach listens more than they talk, challenges without judgment, and makes you feel understood — not managed. Trust your gut on fit.
How Long Does Sober Coaching Last?
Sober coaching can range from a few weeks to several months — and in some cases, it becomes an ongoing, long-term relationship. There is no fixed timeline because every person's situation, goals, and challenges are different.
The most common engagement starts at 30 days or longer. This gives enough time to establish real routines, identify and address triggers, and build the kind of accountability that actually sticks. Many clients find that the first 30–90 days are the most critical, and they choose to continue beyond that as they navigate work re-entry, family dynamics, or major life transitions.
Some clients need short-term, intensive support during a specific window — returning home from rehab, getting through a high-risk period, or stabilizing after a relapse. Others benefit from ongoing monthly coaching as a long-term investment in their sobriety and quality of life.
Every case is unique and tailored specifically to the individual and their needs and goals. We do not push clients toward longer engagements — we help them determine what level of support actually makes sense for where they are.
Understanding Your Options
Sober Coach vs. Therapist vs. Sponsor vs. Sober Companion
Recovery support comes in many forms. Understanding the differences helps you choose the right combination for your situation — and many people benefit from more than one type of support at the same time.
Our role is practical, non-clinical support: building routines, following through on goals, and strengthening accountability in everyday life. Coaching does not replace licensed mental health care or medical treatment. When appropriate, we coordinate with a client's treatment team.

Many clients benefit from combining a sober coach with therapy and/or a sponsor. These approaches are complementary, not competing.
"4 years ago, my life was forever changed by Aaron. Without him, I wouldn't be alive today. He has helped not only myself, but my family in more ways than I can express. When it comes to sober coaches, it is my opinion that there is nobody better. I am beyond thankful for the beautiful life that Aaron believed I could have before I could ever see it."
